Description

Red Congolese

Bearing no African origin, unlike its name, this cannabis strain has its origin in California with Mexican and Afghan roots. It is also very different from the Congolese red. The Congolese red is crossed with indica Afghani phenotypes, while the red Congolese is bred purely with 100% Sativa landrace. It has zero traces of indica and is one of the most popular Sativa class phenotypes.

The highest THC level recorded from this strain is at 21%. Its potency level usually falls between 19% – 21%. It also has its highest CBD level at 2%.  The buzz also comes fast and peaks after only a few minutes have passed. It does not have mind-numbing effects like the indica strains and helps you focus.  The moderate THC levels make this an excellent strain for a light active buzz.

The growth rate of red Congolese is slightly longer than other strains at 10 – 11 weeks. However, it’s a pretty easy flower for novice cultivators. It will produce a very high yield as long as it has all the necessary care and nutrients. It can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Indoor growing is simple, but it may take some time before you see any yield. For outdoor growing, if you start growing in early August, you won’t harvest until late October.

Appearance

Although it has an indica like appearance, it still has the physical look of a classic Sativa strain. The bright mint green colour decorates the bud with orange and deep red hues. Thick off-white layered trichomes also cover it.

There are also some solid, neatly trimmed extra flowers that add to the beautiful design of this bud. The nug leaves a sticky, greasy residue on your fingers which indicates freshness. It’s hard to miss the thick fresh look of Red Congolese once you see it.

Aroma

Much unlike the colouring, the smell is not particularly inviting. It leaves a cloud of dank skunky aroma that smells like strong cheese. The fragrance takes getting used to and will quickly cover the atmosphere. If you can bear a more intense sniff, you’ll notice the mild fruity scents of citrus and wild berries. There are also some traces of afghan spice scents.

Flavour

What you smell is what you also taste with Red Congolese. The flavour is delicious and not unpleasant. It tastes edible with the flavours of cheese, berries, citrus and spice swirling around. The smoke exhale is smooth and lovely. It doesn’t burn or cause uncomfortable scratching at the back of your throat.

Common Usage

It is mainly used in the mornings or early afternoons because of its high cerebral effects. From the first exhale, you start to feel the high working through your system. It is a mind-stimulating strain and helps to get your creative juices flowing. It allows you to maintain a sharp and focused mind which is a massive benefit if you have to work or stay active.

Apart from its recreational use, medical marijuana users boast of the positive effects of this strain. It’s a mood-enhancing strain that helps to manage severe depression and anxiety disorder.

Side Effects

As the high starts to wear off, it takes away all the energy and leaves mild fatigue. It also causes some cotton mouth and eye irritation.
