Are you interested to know how to turn a hair straightener into a rosin press? In this concentrated world, rosin is a new product for most of you. However, the concentrate is progressing rapidly in terms of popularity and quality.  The credit goes to the rosin press technology that has evolved over time. So, if you want to create a rosin press with a simple hair straightener, then this blog is for you. All you’ll need for this project is a hair straightener, two wooden blocks, jb weld high heat, and a fruit press. Fruit press is still usable as a regular fruit press. So you have a two in one tool here that can press both fruit and rosin. Without any further ado, let’s get started with the process.

# Remove The Screws From Your Hair Straightener

First, you have to remove some screws from your hair straightener. The first screw is on the back behind the handle. Next, crack the gold ring off the back to allow you to separate the power. Through these screws underneath the blades, once you got half done go ahead and snap this up which will make accessing these screws a lot easier.

And there’s one more screw to remove in the middle of the joints with two more screws on the PCB. you’re still not done. There are two more screws hidden under the bottom to allow yourself to move this PC pop.

So there are two screws one on this end and one under the wires. You may have to cut this final piece of plastic in the middle. It’s not that strong plastic so you can just give it a squeeze. Once you removed the hot plates’ control panel and circuitry from the hair straightener, it’s time to attach these hot plates to the wooden block.

# Line Up Your Hot Plates

In the next step, you’ll be using jb weld high heat.  You’ll have to remove the plastic clips on each end to allow yourself to run the wires directly flat with the plate here before proceeding with the next step where you will weld it down.

Remember you don’t want it being squished and crimping so it’s better to measure the wooden blocks to mark the exact center. So you’ll mark it at the halfway point and that’s the center. When you have your center plates marked out, extend them so that you can view them while lining your hot plate. Now it’s time to line up your hot plates into the center of the wooden block and give them a quick outline.

# Put Some Grooves Into The Woods

The next step is to put some grooves into your wood so that the jb weld can have something to adhere to. You can use a Dremel, a drill or if you don’t have any other tools you can use a flat-head screwdriver, a hammer, and just chip away some of the wood. This will give it points for the JB well to adhere to. Make sure you sand the surface before we apply in the Jb weld.

# Adjust The Plates

In this step, you’ll have to adjust the plated. So, open up your Jb weld and a portion that you will use. It should only need about 1/3 of the total honey. Now rip it in half and apply an even amount to each of the sides of your wooden block, place your heat plates, and squish it down. Now you should use the press to squeeze it together. For that, you’ll line the two plates and place them into the press. When everything looks lined up and give it a squeeze. Feel free to adjust the plates while you’re doing this. The JB weld takes one hour to set and eight hours to fully cure. So just leave it sitting after pressing it. You will have almost an hour for it will fully harden so it’s better to smooth out any bumps or gaps that it may have. Make sure that the bottom is flush on both sides and you don’t have a wire being crimped.

# Time For a Press

Now so everything looks good to go. If you want to reel a lot in the plates and place it on to the press to harden overnight. Always remember to wrap up this PCB so that when you’re pressing the buttons, you don’t shock yourself. So keep it fairly wrapped so that you can still press the buttons underneath. Now it’s time to test out the press.

In order to test the press first, you will need to plug it in and turn on the device. Give it a heat of 230 degrees Fahrenheit that’s the lowest that it goes to. Also, use some parchment paper and take that to place it into the middle of the hot plate. Make sure everything is lined up good then just pull down on the handle to press.

# Scrape The Rosin

Now it’s time for scraping. It’s important to use a chilled block of marble from the fridge which makes it much easier to scrape. Using any kind of cold surface makes it easier to scrape up the rosin. In the first attempt, you will barely get a minimum of 0.12. So, you can do a second press on this piece as well. Overall it will yield a total of 0.15. The moister it is the more rosin you be able to take out. But I think this press works pretty good overall and it’s the best bang for your buck that you’ll get for around $100.
