What are the different types of marijuana, you ask?
Cannabis is the botanical name of a genus of annual flowering plants in the Cannabaceae family. There are over 150 species and 10 genera included in the Cannabaceae family. Besides cannabis, the hop plant (often used in the production of beer) is also part of the Cannabaceae family.
When grown under proper conditions, some species of cannabis (indica and sativa) produce fairly large amounts of a chemical known as Tetrahydrocannabinol (a cannabinoid commonly called THC).
Cannabis plants that are grown for their THC content are referred to as marijuana plants.
All species of plants in the cannabis genus are commonly referred to as hemp plants. However, the term hemp is more appropriately used to describe cannabis plants that are cultivated for commercial purposes (like clothing and fuel) rather than THC content.
Although many people grow and name their weed, they usually derive the name from where it was grown, like (Maui Wowwy) My friend had some he grew and he called it (Pink Vapor) he said when you smoked some it was well, like pink vapor! LLOLL! I think he got that from the hunting shows where they are out plinkin groundhogs with a .223 Cal. (Ya know how there heads explode) in a cloud of pink vapor!! There are two basic families of cannabis. They are Indica and Sativa and in those two families there are up to 16 different strains of each.
With all the growing going on and people using the method of grafting or seeding, there are actually more now! People either seed their plants with other strains or graft seedlings to get a plant that grows better in that location or under certain conditions like weather.
Indica is a smaller plant in stature compared to a Sativa strain. It usually doesn’t grow more than 5′ high. Indica is usually a brain high. You will go sh*t where did we park? Sh*t, did we even make it where we wanted to go? It is more a spacey high. It has a very short stubby leaf. The buds are very compact/tight and glisten with THC when they are in full bloom.
Sativa is a faster growing plant and it will grow as tall as it can. I have seen strains of this over 20′ high! I can’t post a picture because I might get in trouble, I will have to look and see if any are not showing any faces!! The leaves usually grow longer and thinner. The buds are a little looser but definitely potent!
Indica
Indica Strain
Marijuana plants that come from places that are hot and either dry or moist area’s. Africa, India and all along the Asian part of the world. Sativa’s are more strictly a tropical climate. I think from what I have seen Indica’s will grow great in a tropical climate but are limited in size and output of flowers. (Poundage)
Indica’s originally come from the hash producing countries of the world like Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet. They are short dense plants, with broad leaves and often grow a darker green. After flowering starts they will be mature in 6 to 8 weeks.
The buds will be thick and dense, with flavors and aromas ranging from pungent skunk to sweet and fruity. The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type stone, relaxing and laid back. Indica’s higher CBD than THC equals a much heavier, sleepy type of high. Indica plants have a heavy, stony high that is relaxing and can help different medical problems.
Indica yield is usually lower than Sativa because the indica is a smaller plant and shorter growing season. Better for indoor growing, because they don’t get as tall. Since they mature at a set rate, this family of marijuana can usually produce several harvests in the same time a Sativa plant will mature. It makes it ideal for indoor growing!
Indica plants are short, bushy, mature early, have more chlorophyll and less accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Indica strains have more chlorophyll than sativa they grow and mature faster. As earlier stated, this plant comes from the hash producing countries. Once you harvest and clean your flowers, there are a lot of trimmings and sun leaves left over. This can easily be used to produce has of different types. I will go into that under Hash!
Sativa

Sativa Strain
Sativa is a more flowery strain of marijuana, it grows well where there is ample water. Of course sunlight too but this plant will grow as long as the sunlight stays above 12 hours a day! As with all plants it will grow until it sees the change in length of time the plant gets sun. Once it starts to flower it will be done in 8 to 12 weeks usually, dependent on the weather.
Sativa’s are just about the opposite of Indica’s. They are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 feet in a single season. They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks to fully mature. Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity. Sativa’s higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations. The buds are not as tight and compact as Indica.
Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and require more light.
Sativa typically takes longer to germinate and flower also, and grows more gangly then Indica breeds.
Yield is usually higher than Indica if it is allowed to mature, Thai Sativa grows taller and has a longer flowering period. If you grow a Sativa plant that is 10′ to 20′ tall, you better believe that the output will be large.
