This is really an important question especially for those people who get drug tested for work. In short, the answer is no, CBD will not show up on a drug test simply because CBD is not a tested substance in drug tests. THC however, the psychoactive component in marijuana is tested and many people who worry that taking CBD oil may cuase them to fail a drug test need not worry. First off, let’s differentiate between the different CBD oils available on the market.
CBD Marijuana Oil vs CBD Hemp Oil
CBD oil can mean two things; it can be CBD oil from marijuana or CBD oil from hemp which we call CBD hemp oil. CBD oil from marijuana almost always has higher amounts of THC in it than CBD hemp oil because CBD hemp oil is only allowed by law to have not more than 0.3% THC which is a very small amount. CBD oil from marijuana on the other hand often has equal parts (1 to 1 ratio) of CBD to THC, so 10 milligrams of CBD would contain an equal 10 milligrams of THC per dose. Sometimes may contain less or more but depends on the manufacturer. The fact is, it’s very rare or uncommon to see pure CBD oil from marijuana completely absent of THC, although possible. While amounts may vary, it’s important to note that THC content should be considered before purchasing CBD Oil if you’re worried about failing a drug test.
What is the True THC Content of your CBD Oil?
Reddit has a great CBD forum where they will publicly show a black list of CBD companies that have made people failed drug tests. I highly recommend visiting the thread which provides a wealth of information on CBD. To determine the true THC content of your CBD oil, you need to see the lab report of the product that you are buying. You should look beyond not just the quality of the oil that it is free of pesticides and toxins, that it has terpenes and flavonoids, and lastly has a high amount of CBD. You also need to see how much THC contained because if they are not showing this amount you may risk being in hot water. If it is over 0.3% THC, then you are more likely to fail a drug test. Keep in mind can often times contact the company to request a lab report, they might ask you for a batch number which is a good sign because it means that they are testing every batch that they make so they want to know the specific batch that you were sold and levels. If it doesn’t have a batch system, you can still get the most recent report which correlates to the product that you purchased. An excellent example of a CBD dispensary that thoroughly tests and provides lab-reports is Keoni.
High CBD Hemp Oil Dosage
CBD hemp oil is most likely to make you fail a drug test if you are taking high doses. What are high doses? These are triple digits – hundred milligrams or more. In that size of dose you may be consuming a higher concentration of THC, thus more likelihood of it coming up as a positive on the drug test. Most people get away with probably using it in like serving size, typically like 10 to 20 milligrams maybe a couple times a day that is still way under triple-digit hundred milligram doses. Other suffering from serious pain and other ailments may need a higher dose. CBD being is safe and virtually side-effect free and can be taken in high dosages. However, if you have the risk of getting drug tested and you are taking doses of a hundred milligrams or more, the best thing is to speak with the employer or administration giving the drug test and explain the situation before it happens. Hopefully, you have a good relationship with them and you can educate them on the fact that you are using CBD hemp oil not something being taken for recreational purposes.
Get a Prescription From Your Doctor
If you need to use CBD hemp oil in high doses as the triple digits for your condition, a way to get around this crappy situation is to go to your doctor and get a prescription for synthetic cannabinoid THC which is most commonly referred to as dronabinol. If your condition is serious enough like if you have cancer pain or really serious nausea that you are using these cannabinoids to treat yourself, you can also get a prescription. Then your usage is completely legitimate and even if fail a drug test you have a legitimate reason.
CBD alone is not going to make you fail a drug test though you need to be careful, make sure you get it from a reputable company. Also, don’t take way too much if you know you might get drug tested because the higher the concentration of CBD hemp oil taken, even if it has only under 0.3% THC the higher, can increase chances of it showing up on a drug test. If you take way more than the recommended amount then you are definitely risking pissing hot for THC.
Will CBD Hemp Oil Make you Fail a Drug Test
The answer is it is not likely, but it is possible and you need to protect yourself by taking the following points mentioned above into consideration.

I specifically like CBD Isolate products because they do not contain any THC so I have peace of mind in the case that I have to take a drug test for work because I work for the government.
